The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of CSSR & SRRM Degree & PG College is an initiative established under the flagship program SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation), launched by the Election Commission of India. The club aims to educate students and the surrounding rural community about the importance of democratic participation through free, fair, and informed voting. The ELC plays a crucial role in bridging the information gap about electoral processes and empowering first-time voters with the knowledge and confidence to engage in the electoral system.
Objectives:
· To spread awareness among students about electoral rights and responsibilities.
· To instil the value of informed and ethical voting.
· To motivate students, especially first-time voters, to enrol and participate in elections.
· To promote democratic values, voter education, and civic engagement.
· To create awareness in the local community through outreach and campaigns.
Key Activities:
· Voter Registration Drives: Assisting eligible students in enrolling as voters and updating their voter details.
· Awareness Campaigns: Rallies, poster exhibitions, slogan contests, and skits on the importance of voting.
· Interactive Sessions: Debates, quizzes, group discussions, and mock polls to build knowledge and interest in electoral processes.
· Observation of National Voters’ Day (January 25): Pledge-taking ceremony, special lectures, and felicitation of newly registered voters.
· Workshops & Seminars: Guest talks by officials from the Election Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and civil society members.
· Community Outreach: Educating people in nearby villages about voter rights, the importance of voting, and how to register.
